Bring Home The Gold

6/17/2024

Jesse Owens, Carl Lewis, and Usain Bolt. What do they all have in common? They are all Olympic gold medalists in track and field. They were all at some point the fastest or one of the fastest runners in the world. Did Jesse, Carl or Usain’s parents think when they held that little bundle of joy in their arms when they were babies, they would one day be the world’s fastest runners. Think about it, as babies they couldn’t even walk, let alone run. Dad and mom remembered their very first step. What did they do after that very first step? They fell! All of us as we learn to walk as babies fall over and over again. What do we do after we fall? We get back up and consciously and unconsciously make adjustments so we can take a second, third and fourth step without falling.  We may take smaller steps, bigger steps, adjust our weight forward or adjust our weight back to maintain balance and eventually walk without falling. One day we are not only walking, but we are running and rarely fall. Falling is part of learning how to walk and eventually run. The question is, what do we learn from our fall? What adjustments do we make after the fall to keep our balance the next time we get up to walk? How about our walk in life? What do we do when we fall? We learn to walk, to eventually run and one day we will bring home the gold!
