Ray felt overwhelmed with stress from work and also trying to balance his relationship with his wife. Normally, Ray handles stress well, but the demands at work and wanting to keep his wife happy seemed to be at a breaking point. He felt swallowed up by the stress, as if he had fallen overboard a ship out in the middle of the ocean. Ray tried to tell himself it would be okay, but the stress still burdened him like a barbell with 100lbs of weight sitting on his shoulders. Friends noticed Ray was not himself, and they tried to give him some words of encouragement. Ray was consumed with stress and didn’t know what to do. Ever feel consumed by stress or anxiety? How do you get out of the ocean of tumult and into the lifeboat of calm? First, you have to know what you want. Of course, you don’t want to be stressed, but what do you want? You have to know what you want in order to have something to work toward. Instead of saying, “I do not want to be stressed or anxious.” How about saying, “I want to be at a place of peace.” “I want to feel and be in control.” Know what you want; give yourself something to strive towards. Let your goal be your aim – let your goal be your motivation!
