What do you think? Is it possible for men and women to be just friends and friends only?
Jennifer always said she got along with guys better than she did with the girls. “Females are catty and are often in your business way to much." "You always have to watch your back because they will talk about you when you are not around.”
John always seemed to get along well with the ladies. They would laugh at his jokes and just seemed more interested in listening to him than the guys.
Are you one who has a lot of friends of the opposite gender? Do you find it easy? Why do many find it easy to be friends with the opposite gender? Great question! The answer is “Nature”. Yes, it is in the nature of males to connect with females and females to connect with males. Men naturally are attracted to women and women are naturally attracted to men. Lets put it another way. Chemistry! Men and women have a natural chemistry between each other. Men are attracted to that which uniquely makes a female a female and women are attracted to that which uniquely makes a male a male. As the saying goes, “If you put a male and a female together nature will take it course” meaning they will naturally attract to each other.
Now…Is it easy for males and females to be just friends? Let’s see… You are hanging out, spending a significant amount of time, talking a lot with someone of the opposite gender, but from your perspective, they are just one of the guys or one of the girls, just a buddy. Knowing what you know about the natural chemistry of attraction, what are the odds the person you are hanging out with will be attracted to you or develop an attraction? Remember we are talking about the odds here.
The odds are pretty high someone between the two of you will want and desire more (natural attraction). Then what happens next if one of you doesn’t want to give more? The infamous “You are a wonderful person, lets just be friends speech” Remember, we have acknowledged the natural chemistry between males and females. What have we concluded? Being just friends is extremely difficult.
